Nors senosios medinės Lietuvos pilys iki mūsų dienų neišliko, turime itin gražių mūrinių pilių. Tai ir gotikinės pilies likučiai ant Gedimino kalno Vilniuje, ir Kauno pilis, apie kurią pasakojama daug paslaptingų legendų. Lietuvos simboliu tapo Trakų pilis Galvės ežero saloje. Pastatyta XIV amžiaus antroje pusėje, XV amžiuje ji buvo viena iš LDK valdovų rezidencijų. Bėgant amžiams, pilis smarkiai apgriuvo, tačiau dabar vėl puošia salą, joje įrengtas muziejus. Norviliškių pilis yra retas Renesanso pavyzdys ne tik Lietuvoje, bet ir Europoje. Daug pilių yra išlikę ir Panemunėje.

although the ancient wooden castles of Lithuania have not survived, we have some exceptionally beautiful brick castles. The remnants of a gothic castle sit atop the Hill of Gediminas in Vilnius, and the Kaunas Castle is known for the many myths surrounding it. Trakai’s Island Castle, in the waters of Lake Galvė, is known as a symbol of Lithuania. Built during the second half of the 14th century, it was one of the largest residences for the 15th-century rulers of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. As the years went by, the castle crumbled, but it has since been reconstructed and now adorns its island once again, complete with a museum within its walls. The castle of Norviliškės is a rare Renaissance example not just in Lithuania, but across Europe. Several surviving castles are situated in Panemunė.
